Boston, MA

Boston, the capital of Massachusetts, is one of the famous cities to visit in USA during fall season.  My visit to Boston came on Thanksgiving holidays. During my stay of 3 days, I got to see various historic places, fascinating scenes of foliage, shopping street of Back Bay, Boston markets, and breathtaking views of Boston waterfront.

Places to visit:

Public Garden: This is a fascinating place to take a walk in the evening and enjoy the fall colors. Best place to capture the foliage in your camera.

Charles River Esplanade: Being alongside the Charles River, it presents nice view of Boston city. Nice place to get good pictures at the time of sunset and take a walk along the river.

Massachusetts Institute of Technology and Harvard University: The two renowned educational institutions in Cambridge that are not far from the Boston city. They are situated on the other side of the Charles River.

Freedom Trail: It is a 2.5-mile trail consisting of 16 historic sites. It starts from Boston Common and ends at Bunker Hill Monument. At Boston Common, they offer guided walking tours of Freedom Trail which covers 8 locations and takes around two and half hours. Tourists can choose to visit these sites on their own using the maps available at concierge in Boston Common.

Boston Public Market: It is a public market in Boston. It has various food and grocery stalls of local vendors.

Faneuil Hall Marketplace: This place has 3 different markets – South, North, and Quincy markets. Quincy market is full of food stalls where foodies can enjoy variety of food and deserts. Bread Boule and Chocolate Chip Cookies from The Chipyard are worth to try. South market has a Christmas shop called Christmas in Boston for Christmas shopping for yourself and loved ones.

Back Bay: Back Bay is all about the shopping and especially if you are visiting on Thanksgiving. Take pictures of Trinity Church (founded in 1733) and John Hancock Tower which is a 790 ft. skyscraper. After shopping, you can relax and get a beer at Bukowski Tavern which is famous for beer lovers.

Boston Waterfront: Right next to the Faneuil Hall Marketplace. Great place to hang out during sunset along the waterfront and take some cool pictures for your social media profile with a water in the background. If you are interested to take a cruise, they have sunset cruise stations available. Need to book the tickets in advance.

Chinatown: I should say that Chinatown is the buzz location in Downtown Boston. It has number of Asian origin restaurants (mostly Chinese) as name suggests. Tourists can get to choose from dumpling houses to hot pot restaurants, bakeries, and desert places. Chinatown is also known for late night hangouts. You can spend time with your friends in one of the upscale lounges with great music or in one of the dance clubs if you want to shake your legs.

Restaurants

Gourmet Dumpling House: One of the best places to taste variety of dumplings.

Penang: A Malaysian cuisine restaurant. I liked their all-wooden décor. Sambal Shrimp is one the house specialties with Malaysian Spicy Shrimp Paste.

Happy Lamb Hot Pot: One of the best hot pot places. I ordered half spicy and half original broths with Organic Spring Lamb, Fish Balls, and House Sesame Bun. Everything came together as a mouth-watering combination of flavor and amazing taste.

The Maharaja: Great place to try Indian food, particularly Tandoori Chicken prepared in Indian spices along with Spinach paratha (bread). They have variety of bread options to pick from.

Travel Note: If you are taking an Uber or Lyft from Boston airport, follow directions for specific Ride share spot on airport terminal and then book an Uber or Lyft from your app. Tourists need to walk some distance to the spot. If you could not get to the spot before you ride, the driver charges you for a wait or calls off the ride.
